Methodology
Overall methodology
The research is organised in eight closely related work packages (WP) and includes experimental trials at several locations. SuSI uses the following approach:
Step 1: Collect data and information
Conduct animal trials on management, nutrition and productivity of immunocastration. The trials, each with a specific focus, are led by a local expert partner and will provide direct input to several WPs. To make results comparable and reliable, we will
- standardise protocols for sampling, measurement, and evaluation of meat quality
- analyse key parameters centralised in specific partner labs wherever possible (e.g. androstenone, skatole: KIS; GnRH antibody: UHOH)
Conduct a consumer acceptance study addressing sensory quality as well as consumer attitudes in different EU countries
Make use of already existing data from other projects and partners
Step 2: Processing and analysis of specific data.
Key issues regarding on-farm management and consequences for animals and products, and evaluation of sensory quality and consumer attitudes will be addressed.
Step 3: Integrate and disseminate information
- Results from different WPs will be integrated with respect to societal acceptance and environmental, economic and social sustainability. Existing data from other national and EU projects will be included for modelling.
- Dissemination of results and bi-directional exchange of information with stakeholders along the value chain are important issues of the project.
